Results of a poll conducted from June 26 to July 1 byshow Obama’sz approval rating at 49 percent, versus 44 percent disapproval. That approval rating is down from 62 percentr in early May and the lowesf pointsince Obama’s inauguration. The 1,259 Ohio voters surveyesd also showed a narrow disapprovalfor Obama’s handling of the economy. Of thosw surveyed, 46 percent said they approve of his economidc strategy while 48percent disapprove. Just two monthsa ago, approval of Obama’s handling of the economyh stood at57 percent.
The latest poll coulde be an indication that voters are taking out their frustration on Obamqa while in the past pointing to former PresidenytGeorge W. Bush, Peter Brown, assistant director of Quinnipiac’w polling institute, said in a release. “Thse economy in Ohio is as bad as anywhersein America,” Brown said. “These numbers indicater that for the first time voters have decidex that President Barack Obama bears some responsibility forthei problems.” The poll also took a look at the developintg race for the U.S. Senatw seat to be vacated next year by RepublicamnGeorge Voinovich. Lee Fisher holdse a narrow lead over Secretary of StatJennifer Brunner, who pulled in 21 perceng support to Fisher’s 24 percent. Of the Republicans who have plansxto run, former U.S. Rep. Rob Portmajn pulls in 33 percent support, versus 10 percent for Cleveland-area car dealere Tom Ganley.
