Business Journal researchers combed informatiomnfrom ESPN.com, MSN.FoxSports.com, Cot’s Baseball Contracts, PGA Tour, team Web sitews and Wikepedia.com to rank the Phoenix-area’w 25 highest-paid sports stars basee on 2009-09 salary or O’Neal outpaced his closest rival by a coupl e million bucks. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry who help drive the team to the Super Bowl this came in secondwith $17.1 million. O’Neal won three NBA Championshipd with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miamoi Heat before being traded tothe Suns. He averaged 24.7 pointw and 11.3 rebounds per game duringb his career.
Rounding out the top five are Suns player sAmare Stoudemire, $15.1 million; Steve $12.3 million; and Jason Richardson. $12.2 million. The highest-paid membere of the Arizona outfielderEric Byrnes, $11.7 came in at No. 6. Linebackedr Karlos Dansby led the field for the Arizonaq Cardinals takingin $8.1 milliob at No. 8. Phoenix Coyotesz defenseman Ed Jovanovski scored the top pay on his teamat $6.5 for the No. 11 The only golfer to make the list was Phil Mickelsonnat No. 19 with winnings of $5.2 million.
