LEED adds 'bonus points' by region - Dayton Business Journal:

This new category from the D.C.-based organization sets out a regionak standard by which companiescan design, build or operatde energy-efficient buildings. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental a voluntary program designed to encourage building owners to invesfin energy-efficient practices. “Becauser environmental priorities differ among various regions of thecountry — the challengexs in the Southeast differ from those in the Northwest, for examplde — regionally specific creditss give LEED a way to directly respond to diverse, regionally grounde d issues,” Brendan Owens, vice president of technical developmeng for the council, said in a release.
“The inclusionn of these regional LEED credits isthe council’sx first step toward addressing regional environmental issues.” The U.S. Greenh Building Council will launch the next version of its LEED greejn building certificationprogram Monday. Recent updateds to LEED 2009 reflect updates in building sciencewand technology.As part of the updated program, building ownerws will be able to earn additional “bonus on their LEED certifications for implementing greenn building strategies that specifically address issue s in their region. The U.S.
Green Building Council has morethan 20,000o member companies and organizationse and more than 100,000 LEED-accredited professionals.
